Introducing a new play about the injustice in our justice system.
By Pam Quinn (Posting for Geoff Kidwell)
It feels great, and right, to be back in Crazytown. I'm honored ot be filling in for Geoff Kidwell. It's been a while since I've walked the streets of this town, but am so happy to return to talk about something that means SO much to me. It's a play called "Outrageous Fortune"
Outrageous Fortune is a play I've written that shines a light on the flaws in our justice system. Over this past year i have spent a lot of time researching criminal justice and speaking with inspiring people who have been unfortunately caught in the claws of our faulty system. One person in particular, Damien Echols, who spent 17 years on death row for a crime he didn't commit. Damien has been a huge inspiration for this piece and I have been so lucky to get to know him and his wife over the last year.
One of my final Crazytown Blog posts was about meeting Mr. Echols. You can read it HERE. I would never have dreamed how prominent he and his story would become in my own life and in my writing.
The Unknown Artists have started an INDIEGOGO campaign to help spread the message of this play. We are doing a three night staged reading of the piece on September 27th, 28th and 29th at Cap21 in Chelsea. For more details you can visit our WEBSITE.
Here's an excerpt from the play:
REPORTER: The small town of Oak Bay was shaken this week when the bodies of 4 high school students were found brutally murdered. The Scene: Spinney Woods just down at the end of Main Street. Prosecutors are calling the incident “The Shakespeare Murders” as they seem to copycat the most gruesome deaths found within the text of William Shakespeare’s most famous tragedies.
I hope that you all check out our preview on INDIEGOGO and that you share the link to anyone you feel might be interested in being a part of this play's journey and helping us make a difference in such a world of injustice.
